BURNER OF THE MONTH

I have always been very physically active and I regularly participated in organized running and trail running events as well as triathlons. My husband and I have three very active boys and we have a busy schedule with them but I have always made time to move my body.

The thing that I love most about having a consistent workout practice is that it is an amazing form of stress relief. Running makes me happy! We have a home gym with a treadmill, spin bike, free weights and mats for stretching.

With the arrival of Covid, our lives at our home drastically changed. My three boys were home doing on line learning and my husband had to create an office to work from home. We were also in the middle of a huge kitchen, living room and basement renovation. Our family had a difficult time adjusting to this huge series of changes. After about 6 months, I was physically and emotionally exhausted and I completely stopped all forms of exercise. I had zero motivation and could not even bring myself to go for a slow jog in the park.

After about a year of doing no exercise, I decided to get help. I came into Ultimate Workout and tried the free class and was instantly hooked. Because of everyone at the gym, I was able to run a Half Marathon trail race this past November. I can honestly say that I could not have done this without Corey, Becca, Kyle, and Carlos. Each trainer has an incredibly positive vibe and is interested in the wellbeing of everyone that works out with them. I appreciate that each trainer has their own style and they are tuned into your specific strengths and weaknesses. For me personally, I feel like they know just how hard to push me to do the best that can but they are not extreme or aggressive in the way that they challenge me. I trust them.

I would love to be able to run an off road marathon this year. I will need to be strong and I am excited to have everyone at Ultimate Workout to help me reach my goals. My plan for the near future is to take a short break from running so that I can focus on building muscle so that when I start increasing the distance of my training runs, I don’t injure myself.  This has been a huge problem for me in the past and I am really focused on staying healthy this year.

My favorite classes are the lower body classes. They crush me but I love it because I can feel that I am getting strong. In January I will incorporate a marathon training plan in with my strength training classes here at Ultimate Workout. I’m truly grateful to have found a new gym home. It feels great to feel happy and healthy. Here’s to a great 2022!
